I had a great run today!
That is not something I have really said much lately. Well over the last 8 months really. I think I said it once after a track workout but I definitely paid the price the next day and probably the day after that with searing foot pain. I've been dealing with what I now know to be plantar fasciosis since around December of last year. My whole foot would hurt, my leg would feel dead and my runs have just not been enjoyable. Truth be told I probably started to dread them more than I would admit to myself. This can make leading group runs interesting but that is really another blog post. Today's post is about the run I had today and why it was great.
I've been interested in HR training for awhile (and plan to really explore this more next year) so I have been trying it out on some of my recent runs. I also decided to incorporate something else I have recently gotten into...Pokémon Go. So for today's run I planned on doing 3 miles through the neighborhood, working on keeping a low HR (I use the 180-your age calculation), and catching Pokemon . This really worked out well because there would often be a Pokémon that needed to be caught right around the time my HR was starting to climb. Unfortunately but maybe thankfully there weren't any super exciting Pokémon on the course but I caught a few good ones and I was able to evolve a few when I got home. Catching the Pokémon really kept my mind off of how slow I was going and I enjoyed the hunt.
The hunt was definitely afoot (ha ha) I can tell you. I rearranged my predetermined course and explored some new territory to search out these little pocket monsters. I even found a gym in running distance to which I could leave one of my fighters and earn a little coinage in the process. I wasn't really thinking about time and just enjoyed being out there. Eventually I decided it was probably time to head back and I ran home with a smile on my face, my foot (while annoying) only bothered me a little and although slow, my run home felt effortless and with most of it spent in the aerobic zone.
All in all I ran about 4 miles. Almost a mile more than I planned and bonus was I ran enough to hatch a Pokémon egg.
